Imogen Pauley

Imogen is a painter and digital artist, who is currently based in Cardiff. She graduated from Newcastle University with First Class Honours in 2020.

She is interested in cultural themes and socio-economic issues, creating a fantastical surreal parallel world, Oinkling. This world aims to express, explore and comment on her observations, interests and ideas. Oinkling is highly accessible, allowing Imogen to present current compelling narratives and messages with dynamic impact. Each piece has numerous references to the environment including politics, society, the economy, and most recently and ongoing COVID-19.

She is inspired by news articles, science fiction, film, poetry, comic-books, mythology and philosophy. Much of her creations respect art history and contemporary art, tapping into both its beauty and sometimes dark commentary. Her use of metaphors, clichés and word-play are intrinsic, with some darkly comic results.

Imogen was awarded the Hatton Prize 2020, one of the two prizes selected and awarded by the External Examiners for Studio Practice.

Digital Works – ‘Smoke and Mirrors

‘Smoke and Mirrors’ is an ongoing large project. The piece can change into 7 compositions, due to its ability to loop continuously, and separate into two individual works, ‘Oinkling Spring’ and ‘The Gathering’ (See Below). The piece has a selection of over 60 digital prints, which identify specific contemporary issues. Imogenpauley.co.uk.
