Newcastle Geodesy presentations at #AGU14

If you’re at the AGU Fall Meeting this week, look out for Ciprian Spatar’s poster G21A-0430 on colinearity of SLR geocentre motion estimates (Tuesday afternoon).  The group has also contributed to Tavi Murray’s invited talk C32B-02 on calving of the Helheim glacier, Liz Petrie’s poster G41A-0464 on Antarctic GPS vertical rate estimates, Pauline Miller’s talk C42A-06 on Antarctic Peninsula ice elevation changes, Jerome Benveniste’s talk H33P-04 on full waveform Cryosat altimetry, and Ingo Sasgen’s poster G23A-0471 on Antarctic GIA and present-day ice mass changes.

Geoff Blewitt named as EGU’s 2015 Vening Meinesz Medallist

Former Newcastle geodesy colleague (and later visiting professor) Geoff Blewitt, has recently been named as the 2015 recipient of the European Geophysical Union’s Vening Meinesz Medal, which is the principal award of the EGU geodesy division.  The medal will be formally presented at the EGU General Assembly in Vienna next April.

Congratulations from all of us, Geoff!

Position available: Research Associate in Geodesy

We are looking for a PDRA to carry out research into the analysis and utilisation of GPS observations for positioning and deformation monitoring, including the precise determination of horizontal and vertical motions of the Earth’s crust and structures on the Earth.  This is a fixed-term position for two years in the first instance, although there is expected to be potential for continuation subject to external funding and performance in the role.

For informal enquiries, please contact Peter Clarke.  Full details, and an online application form, are available at http://bit.ly/1s3IyeP .  The closing date is 12 October 2014.
