Welcome

Welcome to the blog site for the Newcastle University – Modern European History Seminar.  The seminar is open to all, not just members of the School of History, Classics, and Archaeology, and Newcastle University, but anybody interested in Modern European History.

The Modern European History Seminar, a part of the Newcastle History Seminar, was a new initiative for the 2018/19 academic year.  It follows the appointment of a number of senior appointments in the field of Modern European History within the History Subject Group. The seminar aims to give opportunities for staff and postgraduate researchers to present parts of their current projects, and to bring distinguished national and international speakers to Newcastle to present their research.

The idea of these series of seminars is not to compete with existing seminars with the School, Faculty or even region, but to showcase research within the School, and to strengthen our Newcastle University within the field of modern European history.  We are excited by the opportunities this presents to discuss the latest developments in the field with leading experts from beyond the North East.

In Semester 2 of the 2020/21 academic year we will run the Seminar online via Zoom for the first time.  Details of the programme and papers can be found in the other sections of this site.
