About

The North-East of England has long been an important centre for oral history activity with oral historians working in education, museums, archives and across a range of community organisations. Recognising this wealth of experience, Newcastle University has made a significant investment and created the Oral History Unit. As well as supporting oral history in the region, the Unit will undertake research, creating an archive and demonstrate new ways of collecting and (re)using testimonies.

In supporting and liaising oral historians on Tyneside and beyond, we aim to build an inclusive and vibrant Oral History Collective that will help to develop oral history practice and theory. If you are interested in participating, please contact the Unit director Professor Graham Smith.
