Hello everyone,
As you all know it’s getting closer to assignment time. For some of you, this will be the first time you have written a university essay while for others, you will be doing this in your final year. The point being, each stage of university – whether stage one, two or three – has its own challenges. To help you with this, we have booked two lectures/workshops about academic writing which will be delivered by the Writing Development Centre. The purpose of these sessions is to provide you with some useful tips, strategies and advice specific to the degree stage you are at. This kind of support is invaluable and incredibly helpful, so do make the most of it. Details for both sessions below:
Stage 1 – ‘Approaching your first assignment: authorial voice’
Room: BEDB.2.76
Date: November 20th
Time: 12-1
(This stage 1 session will take place in the second hour of your timetabled lecture with David. It will be in the same room. You are all new to university writing so this session will be extremely useful.)
Stages 2&3 – ‘Stepping up: enhancing your work at the next level’
Room: BSTC.G.33
Date: December 2nd
Time: 4-5
(Stages 2 & 3 will be together in the same session. This session takes place outside of your lecture hours but I can’t emphasise enough how important these types of sessions are and how much they can help with your writing if you make the effort. Whether you are making the jump from first year to second, or second to third, expectations change; your work needs to make that jump to the next level. This is precisely what this session is about so come along, listen and ask questions. Make the most of this opportunity!)
If anyone has any questions about this please let me know but it should be straight forward. These sessions are for you and designed to help you with your essay writing. Please make the most of them.
Adam
