The Owls came back from a 12 points behind to beat Northumbria 18-16 in a Cochrane cup classic.
NURL went into their cup match against the Poly as underdogs due to their opponents Super 8 league status, however it was not long before the simple-minded Poly players knew they were in for a gritty contest.
NURL A – 46
Hull A – 6
Despite an awe inspiring season so far, NURL 2nds were shipped out to close house to host their final league game of the season against Hull. On a blustery afternoon it was never going to be a classy game of rugby but NURLs dogged determination, which has seen them only lose one game this season, saw them through to win their BUCS north league.
NURL – 50
Sheffield Hallam – 24
The Owls’ saw off stern opposition on the final day of the league season to confirm their status as the AU’s most successful team.
The Death Machine went into the match knowing a win would see them lift the league trophy and avenge the pain of the previous two years’ second place finishes, however their opponents at Cochrane park were Sheffield Hallam – the only team to have beaten the Owls this season.

In the biggest game of the Premier North this season it was the NURL death machine that once again came out victorious.
Leeds Met A – 14

Fresh from their Christmas break the Owls played out a 14-14 draw away at fellow table-toppers Leeds Met 2nds. With a near-full strength team making the trip to Leeds, the Owls were hoping to push above their Premier North league rivals in their first match in over a month.
NURL A – 16
Northumbria B – 14
For the fourth time in five games Newcastle University’s premier sports team brought more valuable BUCS points home to the sparse Newcastle nest by downing local rivals Northumbria at Cochrane Park.
The death machine separated the wheat from the chaff in their mountain top battle with the elements.
Adverse weather conditions were to blame for the cancellation of Sheffield Hallams date with death at Cochrane park. However, keen to maintain peak fitness ahead of Stan Calvert, the AUs most beloved team took to the snowy peaks of the Town Moor to participate in the first annual NURL sledge off.
Liverpool Uni – 6
NURL – 14
Off the back of a huge home win against Liverpool University earlier in the season, it seemed routine for NURL to take the points in the away fixture. However with numerous first team players missing through either injury or university commitments, only at the last minute did the mighty owls manage to fill the team sheet.

A torrid gusty wind swept over Cochrane Park on a gloomy Wednesday afternoon as the Might Owls swooped in to defend their top of the league honours against an inbred looking Leeds outfit. The monstrous NURL death machine needed a good opener after not playing for a fortnight due to John Moores postponing last week fixture in order to riot in London.

Leeds Met 2nds – 10
The death machine got back to winning ways with a 38-10 victory over fellow table-toppers Leeds Met at Cochrane Park.
NURL made sure they pushed on from last weeks defeat to Sheffield by flying out of the blocks against the Met drongos. A bone shattering tackle from NURL heartthrob Joe “Deadlift” Dawson and powerful running from prop Daniel “chorley cake” Caparros set the tone for the hosts, whose physicality would prove too much for the visitors over the 80 minutes.
