New Writing North – deadline for this prestigious prize is 7 February, the entry is free. There are multiple categories for poetry, many genres of fiction, children’s fiction, creative non-fiction and writing for television. More information at  www.newwritingnorth.com

Writers & Artists Yearbook Short Story Competition – Make sure that before you send your submission, you are registered on the website. Send your story of no more than 2,000 words to waybcompetitions@bloomsbury, subject line ‘W & Short Story Competition 2019’. Closing on 13 February 2019, free entry.
