DEEP Study: Developing Effective and Efficient care pathways for patients with chronic Pain

The DEEP Study aimed to examine how patients with long-lasting pain in the face and or mouth currently journey through the healthcare system in order to identify the best and the worst bits of the current care pathways. Information was gathered on the current care pathways’ effects on quality of life, pain, mood, and finances in order to allow these to be discussed with patients, the public, clinicians and service managers/commissioners. These discussions and the data collected then allow the research team to virtually test the potential impact of the redesigned care pathway(s).

The research was led through Newcastle University’s Centre for Oral Health Research (School of Dental Sciences) and Institute for Health and Society. It was funded by a National Institute for Health Research Clinician Scientist award.
