Research interests:

  • Speech perception and production
  • Prosody, especially speech timing
  • First and second language acquisition

My research relates to speech perception, speech production and their relationship. In perceptual work, a primary focus is on speech segmentation: how listeners locate the boundaries between spoken words in adult speech processing, infant language development and second language acquisition. More generally, I am interested in the form and functions of prosody, particularly speech timing, and in perceptually-informed characterisations of prosodic differences between languages. Recent work has examined social and emotional interpretations of prosody.
