Research Assistant (Embedded Systems Design for Environmental Monitoring), Newcastle University

Closing date: 01/05/2024

Duration: The internships are each expected to be for a total of 140 hours, working approximately 35 hours per week between 1 July and 26 July. Working hours will be as follows: Monday to Friday, 9.30 am – 5.30 am, with an hour break for lunch (7 working hours per day).

Bursary/wage: £13.76 per hour including holiday pay

The interns will be given a real research problem to solve, namely hardware and software co-design for embedded systems used for environmental monitoring, such as smart water metering systems. They will work under the supervision of an academic in the School of Engineering (Dr Domenico Balsamo) and their research team at the Microsystems Research Lab. These internships are open to Newcastle University students from the School of Engineering only. The role is particularly suited to stage 2 or 3 undergraduates in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

Innovation Lab “i-Lab” Pilot Student Participant, Newcastle University

Closing date: 24/04/2024

Duration: Students should expect to work approximately 20 hours per week over 12 weeks between June and August.

i-Lab is a dynamic, experiential learning opportunity that will introduce Newcastle University students to innovation and entrepreneurship methods with the aim of responding to a live real-world opportunity or challenge faced by an industry partner. Being part of an immersive experience such as i-Lab, will develop your entrepreneurial capabilities and insights, and will support you to be future ready whether that is as an entrepreneurial employee or an entrepreneur!

International Welcome Assistant, Newcastle University

Closing date: 28/04/2024

Duration: The internships are each expected to be for a total of 230 hours, working approximately 37.5 hours per week between August and September with the final week of the role potentially exceeding 40+ hours with a maximum of 48 hours for the week.

This year International Welcome will take place w/c 9th September. The programme consists of a 3-day airport ‘meet and greet’ service based at Newcastle airport and a 3-day programme of information sessions and exhibitors, including a help desk (usually Wed-Fri), on campus in the same week. The interns will be assisting the Student Life Unit with the final preparations for International Welcome as well as being hands-on and helping run it.

We’re looking for someone to help manage and process customer enquiries, orders and projects, working with the CEO and CBO (Chief Business Officer). We’d like to work with someone who will enjoy the dynamic experience of working with a startup and can have a positive input into our operating procedures as we grow as a company.

Web Designer, Newcastle University

Closing date: 06/05/2024

Duration: This internship is expected to be for a total of 100 hours, working approximately 18 hours per week between July and August. Working days and times are flexible; however, you will be expected to attend weekly check in meetings every Friday to review work and allocate work for the following week.

The Health Economics Group (HEG) have a website which needs a revamp/redesign to make it more modern and accessible. The intern will work alongside colleagues from the HEG to revamp the website.
