PhD opportunities – DREAM

We have funding available for a number of PhD’s in the area of big data, risk and environmental analysis, with a start date no later than March 2017. The funding is available through the DREAM CDT (http://www.dream-cdt.ac.uk/), offering students access to world leading research teams and a large selection of training and development opportunities. This funding comes with the freedom to devise your very own reaserch project with the aid of experts from a range of fields who will help guide and support you from the developemnt of the project to the completion of the PhD.

Currently a research assistant working on the ITRC MISTRAL project for the first national scale system-of-systems analysis framework, where my work focus on the database and visualisation aspects of this work. He is also currently working towards the completion of a PhD in infrastructure robustness to cascadingand spatial failures.

  1. I have no doubt I had acquired the basic requisite knowledge of GIS. I possess a very sound appreciation and understanding field, judging by my pedigree in field. I have and adequate of desktop and server side of expertise in GIS. The basis of my interest is this PHD is not only to contribute to the delivery of the great potential of GIS to environmental problems, but also to acquire more knowledge in working in another international environment. I am an outward looking, ambitious interdisciplinary thinker with deep understanding of sustainability research. I had led some initiatives that promote better understanding of the environmental issues. I have a profound experience in systems analysis to explore future scenarios for land use with a focus sustainable environmental management.

    Recently I graduated with a Master of Science (M.Sc.) from the prestigious University of Twente, Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation, (ITC), Enschede, in the Netherlands. My M.Sc thesis was designing a methodology for assessing and mapping the socially vulnerable population to flash floods at the household level. This study was part of the Integrated Flood Management (IFM) of Kampala, a UN-Habitat sponsored project, which recognises that flooding in Kampala is multi-dimensional and multi-sectorial.
