Why I joined the network:Born and raised in a predominantly white working-class area of Manchester as part a British-Pakistani family, I gained a deep understanding of social justice and race equality. Growing up, I witnessed the bitter sting of racial discrimination in its multifaceted forms. It was disheartening to realise that acceptance within my white peer group was often predicated by my skills on the football field. It underscored for me my fervent belief in social justice and the idea that people should be judged on ‘who they are’, not ‘what they are’. Through membership of NU-REN, University EDI committee’s, and external organisations, I now have the platform to leverage my lived and learnt experiences and core values to advocate for equality within the University and beyond into society. My goal is not just to alleviate the symptoms of discrimination, but to address its root causes, fostering a climate where everyone, regardless of race or any other protected characteristic, feels valued and respected. Everyone of us holds the power to shape a world that is not only fair and just, but also celebrates our differences.
Interesting facts about me:I enjoy international cuisine and immersing myself in the captivating world of cinema. I am a lifelong supporter of Manchester City Football Club.
