The Research Team in Brazil:

Roberto Bartholo is full professor at the Production Engineering program and also collaborates with the Science of Literature program of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). He directs the Technology and Social Development Laboratory (LTDS). Professor Bartholo is bachelor in Economics and M.Sc. in Production Engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and also bachelor in Theology from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio). He holds a PhD in Economics and Social Sciences from Friedrich-Alexander University (Erlangen-Nurnberg, Germany). His main fields of research are philosophical anthropology, social development, institutional innovation and digital humanities.

Rita Afonso holds a PhD in Production Engineering Sciences (UFRJ) and is a Marketing Professor and Extension Coordinator at the Faculty of Administration and Accounting Sciences of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro – UFRJ, Brazil. She is an associate researcher at the Laboratory of Technology and Social Development and the DESIS Network – Design for Social Innovation and Sustainability – both in the Graduate Program in Production Engineering at UFRJ. As a researcher, she works within the LASIN – Latin American Social Innovation Network (co-funded by the European Commission) and as a Co-investigator at Sustainable Consumption, Middle Classes and Agri-food Ethics in the Global South research. In the scope of the extension, participates in the project USIS / UFRJ – Social Innovation Support Unit.

Luiza Farnese Sarayed-Din holds a PhD in Urban Planning (Sustainable Development) from University of Malaya (UM-2017); MSc in Production Engineering from Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ-2009); MBA in Strategic Management from Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG-2008) and bachelor degree in Social Communication (Public Relations) from Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG-2005). While in Brazil, she specialized in informality having published the book ‘A Ponte do Rio’ (2009) about the 1st Urban Planning of Rocinha (one of the biggest favelas in Brazil). With 8 years of experience in Orient countries such as Oman (Middle East), Malaysia and Singapore (Southeast Asia), her research focus is on Global south studies, social innovation and urban studies. Currently based in Brazil, she is a Postdoctoral researcher at Sustainable Consumption, Middle Classes and Agri-food Ethics in the Global South research.

Cristine Carvalho is bachelor in Social Sciences (PUC-Rio) and a PhD candidate in Science of Literature (UFRJ). She holds a master degree in Production Engineering (COPPE/UFRJ) and a postgraduate degree in Economics and Sustainability Management (IE/UFRJ). As a collaborating researcher at the Advanced Program of Contemporary Culture (Literature/UFRJ) and at UFRJ Innovation Agency, she participates in projects related to digital humanities, creative economy and new models of production and consumption. She participates in the research project Sustainable Consumption, Middle Classes and Agri-food Ethics in the Global South as one of the assistants of the Brazilians Co-Investigators in activities of literature review and fieldwork.
