NCLA and Poets’ and Writers’ News

  • Natalie Crick‘s poem ‘Our Place‘ has been shortlisted in the Cupid’s Arrow Love Poem Competition, with The Hedgehog Poetry Press. The 20 shortlisted poems will be published in an anthology-style pamphlet in April.
  • Anne Gill‘s pamphlet Raft is out in April.  It is published by Bad Betty Press.
  • Chloe Daykin is one of the most successful alumni from the Newcastle University postgraduate creative writing programmes. Her debut Fish Boy is now out in Italy, courtesy of Giunti Editore, and it went straight into number 6 in charts there! Her second book The Boy who Hit Play came out last year, also published by Faber & Faber, and her third, Fire Girl Forest Boy, is out this July. Chloe’s first two books have been hugely successful in the UK, the first one was shortlisted for Branford Boase children’s debut of the year, and both later shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal. I can recommend them to those who are interested in writing for children, or simply interested in reading good, enjoyable stories. You will have a unique opportunity to experience Chloe as a tutor on 18 May at the NCLA Creative Saturday Course.
  • Newcastle Centre for Literary Arts have announced that, due to unforeseen circumstances, the Newcastle Poetry Festival programme on 13 March in The Courtauld, Vernon Square, London has been postponed. More information to follow. We can, however, still look forward to the Newcastle Poetry Festival 2019 Programme Launch and Poetry Book Society Spring Showcase event which is still going ahead at Culture Lab, Newcastle University, Thursday 21st March, 7.15pm.
