EAS is a weekly group of Fine Art students who meet on a Friday afternoon to explore the world of electric and acoustic sound. Led by musical instrument designer and maker, Joseph Sallis we learn about and experiment with the excitting world of sound and how to bring that into studio practice and sound installation. From making zithers to oscilators, pickups to preamps, there is no end to the sonic possibilities!

We have been busy over the summer months making preparations for the new academic year and to develop our priorities areas for the department.: Developing Praxis opportunities and Thinking-Through-Making  : With this in mind, We have have devised an exciting programme workshops and talks focussed on Art practice, as well at LifeWorkArt sessions focussed on exhibition and professional practice that we will be sharing with you at the inductions.

We are very much looking forward to having you all back in the department , being active with your practice in the studios and workshop , or sharing your work with others in the long gallery, lecture theatre and other internal spaces – and of course to bringing energy and enthusiasm you bring our to community with initiatives like the soup wednesday , open studios, or popup exhibitions off campus and extra-curricular events that make Newcastle University Fine Art such a unique and extraordinary place to work and study.

Breakfast Club  reopens this week in the Fine Art Cafe   Every Wed starting 29th Sept @ 9 am 

Hosted by Irene and Nick,  BC is an informal space where we can come together for breakfast, conversation, and community.  You can pop in for a coffee + toast (BYO!) and chat about anything that comes to mind. We can listen, answer questions you might have and resolve concerns or just stay connected and chat about whatever is the hot topic that week.  Breakfast Club continues every Wednesday 9-10am in the cafe.  Everyone welcome Join in-person or virtually over zoom  🙂
