The Organisers:

WBN is organised by Sarah Bodman and Linda Parr with input from Nancy Campbell and this year’s tribute to Rachel Carson’s book The Sea Around Us (1951), was suggested by Rachel Marsh | Semple Press.

Rachel also recommends this podcast of a lecture by Alice Oswald talking about poetry, rivers and reality. https://podcasts.ox.ac.uk/counterblast-manifesto-poetry

Criteria:

WBN invite you to make a 2D or 3D work (which must fold flat to fit into an A5 envelope for mailing) inspired by rivers or seas to send for an exhibition and mail art swap.

You can make a text or image (or both) contribution using any media you wish* but it must fit into an A5 envelope (which means it must be smaller than 14.8 x 21 cm

when folded).

Mail Art:

Theresa Easton will email Sarah details of the text you are inspired by so a collaborative bibliography between all participants can be shared.

Bibliography info example:  Carson, Rachel. 1952. The Sea Around Us, Staples Press Ltd, London.

Please also supply your IG or Bluesky info if you wish to be tagged. All artworks will be featured in an online gallery and shared publicly.

All artworks will be swapped so you will receive another artist’s work in return plus the keepsake for WBN2027 which is being produced by Imi Maufe.
