Documenting Artwork will introduce students to the role and value of documentation for Artists with a presentation of the range of photographic equipment and the technical issues around taking images of your Artwork.

Image editing and postproduction will introduce you to basic Photoshop tools used for editing your images to for high quality Publishing, Blog, website, Final Year Forum or postgraduate applications.

These workshops are in two parts: they include access to online, pre-recorded resources, that you can view at your own pace, and in person practical teaching as well. Please sign up to both sessions, where Tara will guide you through all aspects of photographing artwork and you will finish the two sessions with a final piece of photography and the tools to work through these steps again when you need to.

Please note that for in person teaching Tara will be wearing a mask and adhering to social distancing, the only time the whole group will meet will be in a large open space.

Before the in-person Photographing Artwork session (Friday 8th October)

  1. Watch Videos: Please watch the introductory talk by Tara (video named Intro) on the LifeWorkArt section of the Fine Art Community Board. This will be posted before the in person workshop (see here – scroll down the LifeWorkArt page until you get to Documenting Artwork) and will allow Tara the time to work with you to produce work in the session.

A further two videos (Equipment and Demo) are also available and will act as your notes for the session, everything in these will be reiterated in the session but it will be good if you’ve had time to absorb the information first so the session can be as productive as possible.

You will also find a pdf with basic information here (this is also attached to this email).

NB for accessibility all videos have subtitles.

  1. Prepare Equipment: Please sign out any equipment you might need with Mick (see Equipment and Demo videos to see what this might be, you can do this with students sharing your studio space)
  1. Prepare work: Please come prepared and ready to photograph some artwork. This can be 2D or 3D, it can be old or incomplete work, we are simply using it for the purposes of the workshop.

Before the online Post-Production session (Monday 18th October):

  1. Watch Videos: Please watch the post-production videos (there are two, one on Bridge and one on Photoshop) on the LifeWorkArt section of the Fine Art Community Board. This will be posted after the in-person workshop (see here – scroll down the LifeWorkArt page until you get to Documenting Artwork)

NB for accessibility all videos have subtitles.

  1. Follow the Instructions: Follow the step-by-step instructions Tara shows you in the videos to complete the task BEFORE the online workshop.

NB Mick is away on Friday 15th October, so if you think you might need help completing the work then use the department before this date.

  1. Bring your work: Show up to your online session (promptly) ready to share your work with the group, talk through any issues you had and have some ideas for how you could further the work.

You need to sign up for two of the following sessions – one on 8 Oct and one on 18 Oct.

There are spaces for 20 students in total (ten in each workshop).
