Fine Art Studio Health and Safety Etiquette

It is important that all Fine Art students read and adhere to the  studio etiquette and common-sense housekeeping safety at KEVI (Fine Art Building) and Windsor Terrace (Fine Art Postgraduate HUB).  We will have regular checks and ask everyone to follow the code of conduct, so we can  work together to ensure everyone’s safety.

  • Paints, thinners and other flammables
There are a lot of paints, thinners and other flammables not being stored in flam cabinets. This is one of the established studio rules and part of the Fine Art H&S guidelines (see below). All solvents and thinners must to be stored safely in cabinets. – this needs to be rectified immediately in all studios. Action: put all flam materials in one of the flam cabinets. If you need a flam cabinet please let Nigel know, if you can use another one temporarily please do so.
  • Daisy chaining of extension cables
The use of extension cables and daisy chaining is poor practice and poses a risk –this should stopimmediately.
  • Portable Heathers/fan heaters must NOT be used and should be disconnected and removed immediately. Fine Art students received a clear message on this via the SSC follow-up email sent 21.10.24 that personal/ portable fan heaters are not acceptable.Action: If they are personal property then please take them home or they we will be remove.
  • Escape routes should be kept clear at all times, as should safety equipment such as fire extinguishers.  If you have materials blocking anything then please relocate it.
  • General housekeeping must be improved immediately, not just with flammables but with all materials.  Please dispose of rubbish, take away anything that is not required and store other material appropriately.
