Ian C Martin BDS MBBS LLM FDSRCS FRCS FRCS(MaxFac).
Ian has been a consultant in oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMFS) specialising in head and neck cancer and reconstructive surgery, in Sunderland since 1993. He has been clinical lead, clinical director for head and neck surgery, deputy medical director, and since 2013 executive medical director and GMC responsible officer at City Hospitals Sunderland NHS FT. Ian is currently the president of the European Association for Cranio-Maxillo- Facial Surgery. He is a member of council of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, and is president designate of the British Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (BAOMS). He is the past president of: the British Association of Head and Neck Oncologists, the Federation of Surgical Specialist Associations, and the North of England Medico-Legal Society. Ian was also chairman of BAOMS council, and chairman of the SAC in OMFS. He was the clinical lead for the National Confidential Enquiry into Patient Outcome and Death (NCEPOD), and is now on the board of trustees. He is also civilian consultant to the Royal Air Force, and holds a commercial pilots licence with instructor and examiner ratings. His wife Diane is a practising general dental practitioner who also works in the community dental service and is a past president of the North of England Odontological Society.
