Phil was appointed a consultant in 2003. He qualified in 1981 from Newcastle upon Tyne and spent the first 12 years in NHS General Practice in Northumberland, by 1992 he had gained the MGDS RCS and decided to move to London to do the MSc Cons with the eminent Derrick Setchell at the Eastman. There was no looking back and by 1996 he had gained the MRD and by 2001 the FDS from Edinburgh. By that time he was running an MSc in Gerodontology at QMUL which led to him being the Course Director of the internationally recognised M.Clin Dent in Prosthodontics which has a memorandum of agreement with RCS Edinburgh where Phil acts as Dental Advisor for North London and as examiner for the M.Pros. He was made Senior Lecturer in 2008 and made Clinical Director in 2011. As Clinical Director he led the move to the first new traditional Dental School in 40 years, interestingly the last was Newcastle when he was an undergraduate. His interests are around tooth wear and is the first dentist to be invited to sit on the NICE guidelines for eating disorders. As an active member of the British Society of Prosthodontics he has lectured on two of the well-received webinars.
