5: The users’ perspective

Design stage: Refining and story boarding

We are now focusing on the perspective of members of the public who we like to engage. Who are the various ‘users’ in the case of digital civics technologies from the point of view of your proposition? Are concerns of users from amongst the public different from that of your project partners and why? This session is a reflection on the very first week’s session in which seek to define what digital civics technologies are. Here we are debating questions of ethics and trust in engagement and outreach with a digital civics product. What questions arise in regard to data control and privacy. In many ways, this opens up a wider debate about who ‘owns’ the digital infrastructures that run cities.

Seminar: Discuss the likely concerns of the users in your proposition. Share any issues you have with the story boarding activities.

Team: Finalise the design of your story board and then share it as an image in your design log along with a reflection. What was hard about generating your design log and how did you overcome those challenges?
