PhD Topic: Hierarchical timing in varieties of Kuwaiti Arabic
Supervisors: Laurence White

I am interested in different aspects of speech rhythm and timing, and Arabic dialects variation, specifically Hadari and Bedouin Kuwaiti Arabic. The concept of rhythm as a temporal coordination phenomenon between different prosodic units is adopted in my dissertation. I investigate how different structural aspects of dialects may influence temporal coordination, through speech cycling paradigm. Also, the influence of specific timing units that speakers may control in their production is assessed through amplitude envelope statistics.
