27th February 2016 – Genetics Matters

On the 27th of February 2016 we held our popular “Genetics Matters” event at the International Centre for Life, as part of the international Rare Disease Day. The day was a huge success and included presentations form the leading Newcastle University scientists and patient organisations as well as meet the scientist tables, giving the participants a chance to chat about rare diseases and hear about the exciting state of the art research at Newcastle University.

We would like to thank all the presenters for their wonderful and inspiring talks and demonstrations. We would like to especially thank the presenters of the “Patient Voice” session for sharing their experiences with us and for the inspirational and emotional talks that they gave. It is important to remember that behind the tubes and microscope slides there is also a human story, and that we are all working towards a common goal.

We would like to thank the participants for sharing this afternoon with us. Thank you for the amazing feedback, we hope you enjoyed the event and that you will participate again next year!

“thank you for a fantastic opportunity; the young people were a credit to the University”

“my husband and I were totally absorbed in this event; we loved all the presentations and enjoyed the hands in sessions very much”

“an exceptional day; one “rare disease” theme but masses of ways of looking at the work going on”
