What’s it all about?

Competition now closed!

The fantastic British Science Festival 2013 is coming to Newcastle this year! To mark this occasion, the Institute for Genetic Medicine at Newcastle University recently organised a ‘flash’ writing competition celebrating how our understanding about DNA and genetics has influenced lives.

Entrants from secondary schools across the North East have submitted short stories (or other prose). We have been delighted by the not only the number of entries but the overall creativity.

Currently, we are judging all the entries and will be announcing the winners in due course.

You can find more about the judging criteria here.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to submit an entry. We hope you enjoyed writing them as much as we have had reading them.

The competition is organised and funded by the Institute of Genetic Medicine at Newcastle University with the kind help, advice and expert input of the School of English.
